Worker

A worker is someone with a contractual obligation to personally do work for another person but who is not under a contractual obligation to continue work and/or be controlled by the employer in the doing of the work.  Therefore they have a different legal status from employees.  The tem is defined in section 230(2) Employment Rights Act 1996.

Zero increases by 26%

The Office for National Statistics has released new figures that show nearly 700,000 people work on zero hours contracts - up 26% from last year.  The problems caused by these contracts will require a significant change in the law.
